University of Pitt football defensive lineman Calijah Kancey was named a Preseason All-American second team member Thursday. The redshirt sophomore was the only member of Pitt to be selected. 50 members were named by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, with 25 in both the first and second teams.

With over four starts in 2020 and in 11 games, Kancey tallied 27 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. The 6-foot 270-pound lineman had five tackles in an October loss to Notre Dame as well as four against Clemson a month later.

A Miami native, Kancey hails from Miami Northwestern High School, where he was a First-team All-Florida Class-64 and was the No. 113 players that came out of the state. He was also named a freshman All-American by The Athletic, Rivals, and the Football Writers Association of America.

With Patrick Jones II, Jaylen Twyman, and Rashad Weaver all leaving the defensive line for Pitt, Kancey will look to step up his role in the approaching 2021 season.
