Where Does Judah Mintz Rank Among Pitt Commits Under Jeff Capel?

on

With Friday’s commitment of Judah Mintz, Jeff Capel landed his first commitment of the 2022 class.

In what will be his fifth recruiting class in his tenure at Pitt, Capel is looking to build around Mintz, a four-star talent, who ranks up there with the best prospects Capel has brought in to Pitt.

Here are the top five rated recruits since Jeff Capel took over at Pitt, according to the 247 Sports Composite.

The 247 Sports website defines its composite ranking system as follows: “The 247Sports Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect “rankings” and “ratings” listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services.”

While different recruiting sites have ranked players differently, PSN chose to look at the composite rankings for this story.

5. William Jeffress

Jeffress was ranked No. 128 according to the 247 Composite. The youngster’s ranking dropped heavily on both 247 Sports and Rivals after re-classifying to the 2020 class, but still committed to Pitt as a four star.

4. Gerald Drumgoole/Au’Diese Toney

Drumgoole and Toney were both ranked No. 117 in their respective classes according to the 247 Composite. While neither of the two are still in the Panthers program (Toney at Arkansas, Drumgoole at Albany), they were both highly-touted prospects landed by Capel.

3. Judah Mintz

The newest Panther, Mintz is ranked as the No. 101 player in the class of 2022 by the 247 Sports Composite. Mintz is highly-touted according to the guys at 247, as he is ranked No. 83 in their Top247 rankings. However, other outlets have him ranked outside the top 100 in the country.

2. John Hugley

Hugley was ranked as the No. 99 player in his class according to the 247 Composite. The Cleveland native made some huge jumps in the rankings throughout his high school career, starting out at No. 239 in the nation in 2018.

1. Trey McGowens

According to the 247 Composite, McGowens was ranked as the No. 95 prospect in the class of 2018. Throughout his four-month history appearing on the rankings, he hovered between No. 88 and No. 95 throughout.

If looking at Rivals rankings alone, Mintz (103rd according to Rivals) would rank fourth on the list of Capel’s commits while at Pitt, just behind Hugley (80), Jeffress (82), and McGowens (83).
