All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of Pitt’s 2021 training camp roster.
24 • Phil Campbell III, redshirt senior linebacker
Last year: Campbell, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker, started all 11 games as a senior before deciding to return to Pitt to take advantage of the COVID-19 eligibility waiver. He’s played 44 games over the last four seasons.
Stats: Campbell amassed 46 tackles, seven for a loss and 4.5 sacks in 2020. Originally a safety, Campbell is versed in pass defense as well, catching an interception and breaking up two passes in 2019.
Camp outlook: With Campbell and Chase Pine both staying on another year, the Panthers’ entire linebacker group from 2020 remains intact.
Projected role: He should be expected to once again start at the Money position, though he may share some time with SirVocea Dennis. As a sixth-year senior, Campbell should be one of the leaders of the defense.
Accolades, highlights: Won Pitt’s 2019 Ed Conway Award as most-improved player.
