The Pitt basketball program will be getting an upcoming visit from one of the top ranked players in the Class of 2023.

2023 4-star point guard London Johnson (6-foot-4, 180-pounds) received an offer from Jeff Capel on May 25 and now plans to get an in-person look at the Pitt program.

Johnson tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that he will be making an unofficial visit to Pitt “either first week of July or the last weekend in July.”

Over the last few days, Johnson has received offers from Florida, NC State, Clemson, Auburn and VCU to go along with previous ones from Memphis, Xavier, Houston, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Georgetown. Currently Rivals ranks Johnson as the No. 44 overall player in the Class of 2023.

After receiving the offer in May from Capel, Johnson told PSN that “Coach said that he knows that I’m young and that I have family in Pittsburgh and that have attended Pittsburgh. He told me that he wanted to offer me now in order to start building a connection with me and then get me up to visit Pittsburgh.”

“When I got that news, I was very excited but also motivated to keep working hard to improve. I felt that the offer would eventually come because of how hard I’ve been working. The offer means a lot to me and I really appreciate it. My aunt recently moved to the Pittsburgh area. I will really think about committing to Pitt as long as the playing style fits me and my game.”

Johnson is a shifty ball handler with a strong finishing ability at the rim. A talented scorer, he effortlessly weaves his way through the lane and has a layup package that allows him to finish over bigger defenders.

“I think I am at my best defensively and shooting,” he added. “I am also very good at reading the pick and roll. I am comfortable shooting at all three levels and on defense I am very good both on and off the ball,” said Johnson.
