A year after enjoying tremendous success recruiting in Virginia, Pitt lands a commitment from a highly thought of offensive lineman.

2022 3-star offensive tackle Isaiah Montgomery makes a commitment to the Panthers Friday morning. Montgomery (6’5”, 290) holds an impressive list of offers- Arizona State, Boston College, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Montgomery made this decision after visiting Illinois over the weekend and Pitt two weeks ago.

“It was really the people and the fact that Pitt is located in the city, the location of everything and I was really impressed with the Life Skills program that they offer at Pitt,” said Montgomery.

”During the visit, I also enjoyed the time I spent hanging out with the players on the team,” said Montgomery. “I liked how easy it was to talk and connect with them. I also liked how I was able to talk with all the coaches and joke with them equally and not favor one coach or be hesitant around anyone.”

I asked Montgomery if he knew he wanted to commit to the Panthers during his visit or did it happen over the last two weeks?

”I wanted to be able to compare other visits and in particular, compare different two places that are completely different areas, like the locations of Pitt and Illinois are really different. Illinois is in a college town and Pitt is in the city.”

Montgomery tells PSN that his final decision came down to Pitt, NC State and Maryland. He also credits Dave Borbely for recruiting him hard and taking over right after the departure of Chris Beatty.

”I called Coach Narduzzi this morning and told him. When I told him he immediately just screaming and yelling happily. A bunch of the coaches were with him and were cheering and Coach Narduzzi passed the phone around to everyone.”

Montgomery becomes the 11th member of Pitt’s Class of 2022 and their second offensive lineman.

Quite a run Narduzzi’s on. A week ago it was looking bleak after CB from Ohio jumped ship and kid from Perry snubbed Pitt but this past few days has been something.
