This past Wednesday, former Aliquippa star running back Terry Swanson was hired as the Director of Player Development by his alma mater, Toledo. Pittsburgh Sports Now talked to Swanson about his new position with his old team.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Swanson told PSN. “I’m excited to back with my Rocket family and trying to help build these young guys into successful young men and help them try to win a championship.”
Swanson said that when he was a player, he always had plans of entering the coaching field, so he was excited when the opportunity presented itself. However, this wasn’t the only staff opportunity Swanson had.
“Actually, I could have been recruiting quality control at Pitt, but I believe this was the better opportunity for me at this time. Being from Aliquippa, it was hard to pass up, but this is like a second home for me. Just spending four years here and just building relationships here with some of the guys on the staff and some of the players and the people of Toledo, so it was just a great opportunity.”
Swanson added that he is able to speak to the incoming and current players about the school and the campus on a personal level, since he is an alum and knows what they are experiencing.
Swanson finished his Toledo career with 3,601 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns. He briefly joined the Houston Texans in 2018 and the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL in 2020 before taking the job at Toledo.
