Former Pitt Target Kofi Cockburn Enters Transfer Portal, Name Still in Draft

Published

on

On Thursday, hours before the July 1 deadline to enter the transfer portal with the possibility of immediate eligibility, Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn entered his name into the portal.

Cockburn announced his declaration for the NBA Draft back in mid-April, and on Thursday, reports got out that he would be entering the portal while also keeping his name in the draft.

Back in December of 2018, Cockburn, who spent two years playing for the Illini, listed a top five schools list including Pitt, UConn, Illinois, St. Johns, and Kansas. This past year, the 7-footer averaged 17.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, earning him consensus Second Team All-American honors as well as First Team All-Big Ten.

Many think Cockburn will ultimately follow former Illinois assistants Orlando Antigua (former Pitt player) and Chin Coleman to Kentucky. However, it will still be interesting to see if Jeff Capel and Pitt attempt to recruit Cockburn for a second time.

After his play in the NCAAs, I see him being taken in the draft.
Nevertheless, he would be a big boost for Pitt.

Hire Orlando as H.C. in 2022, best recruiter in country, also better floor coach than Capel
