PSN Poll Question: Should the ACC Conference Look To Add West Virginia?

Published

on

The talk of Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 Conference to join the SEC is gaining momentum every minute. In fact, Chip Brown from Horns247.com is reporting that the it’s official and those two schools are leaving.

This will obviously have huge implications throughout college sports and the speculation of conference realignment will immediately begin. The biggest question will be what becomes of the Big 12 Conference and will existing members start to look to leave for other, more secure conferences.

What will become of West Virginia? If they’d want to expand, the Mountaineers would look to be a perfect match for the ACC Conference.

Our PSN Poll Question is, assuming all of this happens, would you like to see the ACC expand and add West Virginia?

Atheletics – yes. Huge fan of move.

however. These are still nominally academic conferences, and WVU doesnt hold up to the other schools. There are multiple academic and research improvements they would have to make. Which would be great for WVU, but is troublesome for the conference. Nebraska is an example where they did make successful academic improvements, but they had a smaller hill to climb.

The ‘errs were rejected when Syracuse and Pitt were added in ‘13 because of their poor academic record. Nothing’s changed.
Notre Dame, UCONN, yes. After that ????

Travis what has 99,941 eyeballs and 424 teeth?

The WVU fans in attendance of a home game at Mountaineer field.

WVU will not be accepted in the ACC due to the remedial academics currently in place.

There is nothing wrong with WVU’s academics. The problem is with the PERCEPTION of
WVU’s academics.

An outdated state law requires the school to accept any and all instate student, regardless of academic capability.

This in turn tarnishes the university’s academic standing.

Dr. Gee, WVU’s Pres., has been working on developing a community college system to funnel the lower rated students into and I believe the plan is pretty far along now.

I’m a Pitt guy and I would love to have a true rivalry every year, and not with PSU!
WVU is hated, but I always respect them, like a little brother, lol. PSU fans are unrealistic and think they are is the same breath as Alabama and Clemson. Due to that, and the whole Sandusky thing, I don’t even care about them anymore because they are posers.
Bring WVU on!!! H2P!!!

Their academics would kill it. They are the fallback option for all the HS students who graduate from the Pgh. area. Would be an embarrassment for the conference.

What’s embarrassing is having a 3-7 losing record against WVU over the last 10 years of the Backyard Brawl, right?! Wipe that poop off your lip. #sweetcaroline

@PittH8R – As a proud Mountaineer and WV native, I ask you to please have some class. There’s no reason to be so disrespectful and disgusting with your comments. You’re the reason people dislike WV. Grow up.

I don’t think the biggest drawback with WVU is academics, but money. They don’t add to the reach of the conference with their viewing audience, which is already covered by Pitt. Rutgers got into the Big 10 because of the potential viewing audience. The Mountaineers don’t bring anything in that respect, though I’d certainly love to see them join.

Academically I would be welcomed to WV or PS but wouldn’t cut it to get in my Alma mater. Hail to Pitt.

Quick story, colleague’s daughter wanted to come to Pitt, he being a Mountaineer and all, wasn’t happy. Two years later he conceded the correctness of the decision.

Virginia has a limit on out of state students accepted, I don’t hear anyone lamenting their academic standing.

Keep the ‘eers out.

WV is never going to get an invitation to join the ACC. Just like Paterno was the only no vote when Pitt was up to join the Big Ten, Pitt is never going to cast a yes vote for WV.

Rhodes Scholars…WVU 25 PITT 8 Now, can we stop condemning WVU for so called poor academics? This is about football and basketball and we know it. WVU’S facilities have been improved to the tune of about 123 million. The basketball practice facility has been called one of the best in the country. The football stadium has been upgraded. Fan support is there as usual, which cannot be said about some of the other ACC institutions. It is a geographical fit for the conference. The poll in this newspaper has 9 out of 10 people thinking that WVU should be in.… Read more »

Salient point about the Rhodes Scholar count. Let’s face it: I’d be sad too if all I ate was sh*t. #sweetcaroline LET’S GOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!

it’s hilarious that people think the ACC has great academics. if you remove Duke, ND, VA, UNC, and Wake Forest out of the equation you have a bunch of mediocre state schools. To consider Pitt a highly academic school is like considering a Honda Civic to be a sports car.

Pitts certainly doesn’t want West Virginia in the conference. West Virginia has dominated them in the last two decades and there’s a lot of recruiting ramifications.

This goes for basketball and football. I guess all that emphasis on “academics“ has helped Pitts suck at sports for the past two decades.

meanwhile West Virginia has had 25 Rhodes scholars in its history. Only Virginia, Duke, and North Carolina of the ACC have had more.
