After leading his loaded Team Final squad to victory in Saturday’s Peach Jam semifinals, Otega Oweh received some very good news from one of the coaches who was in attendance.
Jeff Capel became the lone coach to offer Oweh on Saturday, after the Blairstown, New Jersey native put up some eye-popping numbers in two matchups on the day. In his first game, a quarterfinal matchup, Oweh put up 24 points and six rebounds in a win over ProSkills. In the second game, Oweh led his team, which features two top ten recruits in the nation, with 17 points.
Oweh plays his high school ball for Blair Academy, and is the No. 92 player in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite. He holds offers from a long list of schools, from the Ivy League to high-major conferences like the ACC and the Big Ten. Some of the schools who have offered are Penn State, Miami, Washington, Georgetown, Nebraska, Minnesota, St. Johns, and more.
“Otega is a big athletic attack guard who can guard multiple positions and score at multiple levels,” Blair Academy head coach Joe Mantegna told PSN. “We are excited that his play with Team Final this summer is allowing him to show everyone how much work he has put into his game in the last 18 months and how he effects winning even at the highest level.”
While some would wonder why Pitt would be recruiting another guard in the same class as Judah Mintz, it is clear that the two are not the exact same type of guard. Oweh plays with a tougher style, finishing through traffic while Mintz tends to use his creativity inside to get his defenders up in the air. While he is as explosive as they come at his age, Oweh also has a very smooth jumper and takes care of his shot selection.
Oweh’s official stats for EYBL play and Peach Jam are as follows:
