A new target has been added to the Pitt basketball recruiting board for the Class of 2022.
Monday evening, 2022 3-star recruit Daniel Skillings announced that he’d received an offer from Jeff Capel and the Pitt Panthers. Skillings is a 6-foot-6, 180-pound shooting guard from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and also played this summer with Philadelphia Pride (AAU). Capel and his staff watched him in person a number of times this summer.
Five months ago, Skillings didn’t have a single offer but now holds 20-plus offers including from programs such as Cincinnati, Georgia, George Washington, Temple, Minnesota, St. John’s, UMass, Miami, NC State, Penn State, Providence, Rhode Island, Robert Morris, Temple, VCU, Virginia Tech and Xavier.
This rising star is being described as the top senior in Philadelphia this season with the skill to play and defend positions 1 through 4. Last season in his first season in the Philadelphia Catholic League, Skillings averaged 19 points per game.
With the rise in his recruiting stature, Skillings received an invite last month to the NBA Top 100 camp in Orlando, Florida.
Just as in 2021 the numbers of top recruits who, extraordinarily (or are provoked to list Pitt) in their top schools only to miraculously overlook the panthers at selection time. With Capel it has been like fishing with no bait on the hook. “Love the coaches and facilities but never was really interested.” At the end of 2022 dump Capel and hire a proven recruiter, alumnus Orlando Antigua. Hire a top assistant coach to help him in the early years while he learns to be a head coach. With Orlando it is “show them and they will come.”

Another Pitt/Capel offer. . . .imagine that!
