Former Central Catholic lineman AJ Beatty’s next college stop will be to play for a program with a bunch of Pittsburgh ties.
Beatty has decided to transfer to play for Greg Gattuso and the Albany Great Danes. Back on August 9, Beatty announced his decision to transfer from North Carolina.
The 6-foot-5, 305 pound lineman spent just one season with Mack Brown’s program before deciding to enter the transfer portal. While with the Tar Heels, Beatty worked on both the offensive and defensive line.
Beatty’s recruitment exploded during his senior season at Central Catholic as he received over 40 scholarship offers before deciding on North Carolina. Other Power 5 programs that extended him offers were Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, NC State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, West Virginia and Pitt.
The Albany coaching staff has a few local connections with Greg Gattuso as head coach (Seton LaSalle graduate), Jim Sweeney as offensive line coach (Seton LaSalle graduate) and Nate Byham as tight ends coach (former Pitt Panther).
Beatty will have four seasons of athletic eligibility remaining with Albany.
