Home cooking has been nothing but kind to Pitt (8-0) for the first three matches of the season, sweeping the weekend with a 3-0 match victory over Bowling Green (3-6) Saturday.
After defeating High Point (3-0) and No. 12 BYU (3-1) to begin the challenge on Friday, the No. 4 team in the country conquered the Falcons at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt continued to improve each set, winning by a larger margin as each set was put in the books.
The Panthers hit .481 in the first set en route to a 25-19 win to set the tone for the remainder of the night.
On Beach Night and Diocese Night, Pitt pulled away late in the second set to win 25-17, before capping off the night with a 25-16 victory in set three, moving to 8-0 on the young season.
Only three teams—Texas, Wisconsin, and Nebraska— sit ahead of Pitt before this weekend’s action. The Ohio State Buckeyes were tied with Pitt at the Sept. 5 rankings.
The Blue and Gold have won four matches this season against teams ranked at the time of completion (No. 23 Rice, No. 18 Washington State, No. 9 Baylor, and No. 12 BYU).
Pitt returns to the court on Friday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. against Morehead State in Morehead, Kentucky as a part of the Comfort Inn-vitational.
