Pittsburgh Sports Now and Pittsburgh Golf Now jointly present a new video venture entitled Nine Holes With, a video which literally involves playing nine holes with an individual, which hopefully by video’s end you get to know more about.
This debut episode features Robert Morris Men’s Basketball Coach Andy Toole.
Toole, who has a true love for golf, will enter his 12th season leading the Colonials as the program looks to rebound in its second season as a member of the Horizon League.
This video features discussion revolving around golf, basketball and some other interesting topics. Of course there are golf shots sprinkled in as well, some good, and mine as well.
A special thank you goes to several people. For starters, Andy Toole and Jim Duzyk themselves. When the text message was sent to Duzyk, the expected response was “thanks, but no thanks”.
In a time where sports both collegiately and professionally have restricted access to reporters, and this before the pandemic, a no would be an easy response.
The golf course is a less-controlled environment, where trust was placed that this piece would be done both honestly and professionally. Things could easily go wrong in either or both directions, but from the beginning, the pair were two-feet in, which made this process that much easier.
From there, a text message was sent to Moon Golf Club General Manager Josh DeNinno, explaining this idea, and asking if his course would be willing to have us.
DeNinno has always been very supportive of the local media, especially us here in the Pittsburgh Sports Now family. He has treated several of us like family and this time was certainly no different, as he emphatically agreed.
He understood what it would take to have nine holes, so all three parties picked a date and time that would work and another tee time was blocked off so that the group behind us would not be held up.
With everything set up, Mike Darnay agreed to be onsite to provide visuals and then edit them into this video. Mike’s work and vision were exceptionally efficient and critical towards this project’s success.
Please let us know what you think of this new concept and who we should play nine holes with next!
