Compiling a 10-0 record against non-conference teams to begin the season, No. 4 Pitt faced it’s first ACC test on Friday in North Carolina.

In a battle between two previously unbeaten teams, Pitt (11-0, 1-0 ACC) took care of business once again, handing the UNC Tar Heels (11-1, 0-1) their first blemish on the record, marking the fifth time Pitt has defeated an undefeated team at the time of competition.

The Panthers started out strong in the first set, winning 25-17 and setting the tone for the remainder of the match. Pitt hit .480 within four players hitting over .500 to earn the eight point victory.

Transfers Leketor Member-Meneh (Missouri) and Serena Gray (Penn State) both excelled early on for the Blue and Gold, as UNC battled closely but failed to break through at the end. Pitt took set two 25-20 and looked to be in control heading to set three.

The Tar Heels wouldn’t go away easily, recording the first six points of the third set and dictating the pace-of-play. UNC took the third 25-9 as the Pitt offense beat themselves with numerous failed attacks and other errors.

Pitt rebounded, however, in set four holding an 18-12 lead at one point and holding on to take down unbeaten UNC 25-21 and improve to 1-0 in conference action.

Member-Meneh, Gray, and Chinaza Ndee all recorded 11 kills apiece for a three-way tie for the team lead, while Gray also registered five block assists on the night and Member-Meneh picked up her third double-double thanks to 11 digs as well.

Pitt remains in North Carolina to battle N.C. State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be available on ACC Network Extra.
