Coming off a career-best game, Pitt running back Rodney Hammond was honored by the ACC Conference on Monday.
The true freshman from Virginia was named the ACC Rooke of the Week following his three touchdown performance against New Hampshire.
For the game, Hammond rushed for a team-best 100 yards on 17 carries and 3 touchdowns. It was the first time since Dion Lewis in 2009 that a Panther freshman running back scored three touchdowns in a game. Prior to Saturday, Hammond only had 9 carries for 37 yards in the first three games.
Hammond was a 3-star recruit coming out of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia and had been committed to the Pitt program since November of 2019 when he gave a pledge to former assistant Chris Beatty.
Hammond and the Panthers (3-1) start ACC action this Saturday when they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (2-2). The game will kick off at Noon and be televised on the ACC Network.
