2021 continues to be a year for the ages for the Pitt volleyball program, beginning the season 12-0, for the first time since starting 23-0 in 2018, and continuing to climb up the AVCA Top 25 rankings.
Following a North Carolina sweep of UNC and N.C. State to begin ACC play 2-0, the Panthers moved up two spots from fourth to second in the weekly coaches poll. Previous No. 1 Texas (9-0) maintains the top spot, claiming all 64 first-place votes.
Pitt became the highest-ranked ACC program all time in the poll, marking the Panthers’ 60th-consecutive appearance in the Top 25 and highest spot on the list since 2019.
The Blue and Gold passed Wisconsin and Ohio State this week who fell to five and eight, respectively, following conference losses to mark both programs first defeat of the season.
Pitt returns to the Fitzgerald Field House Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the Panthers’ ACC home opener against Virginia. The match will also be available on ACC Network.
