On Wednesday, Pitt announced that it would be allowing fans to take an early look at the new-look 2021-22 Panthers basketball team on Oct. 9 in a scrimmage at the Petersen Events Center.

“We are excited to have fans back in the Petersen Events Center and for Panther Nation to get to see this new group of players,” Jeff Capel said in a release. “Our team has worked hard and we have seen steady development and progress throughout the offseason. I really like how our group of newcomers has blended in with our core group of returnees. We have a versatile and athletic team with the opportunity to play an exciting brand of basketball.”

The scrimmage will be free of charge, with tipoff set for 2 p.m. and the doors opening at 1 p.m.

Seating will be general admission with court-level seats reserved for the Oakland Zoo. Fans who are not students will be sitting in the 100 level, and the upper level will be closed to the public.

According to the release, Parking will be free in the OC Lot off Allequippa Street.

According to University guidelines, Pitt will be requiring masks inside the Petersen Events Center.

This team seems like it may be a little more athletic then what we’ve seen in the last year or so top to bottom. Coach Capel’s formula may be starting to work.
