Pitt Extends PWO to Belle Vernon 2022 Star Devin Whitlock

Devin Whitlock has been one of the most dynamic performers in the WPIAL this season and one of the big reasons Belle Vernon is the WPIAL Sportsmen/PSN No. 1 ranked team in 4A.

Along with sophomore star Quinton Martin, Whitlock has been an unstoppable force as he’s rushed for 679 yards on 56 yards (12.1 yds/carry) and scored 16 touchdowns, which is tied for the second most in the WPIAL.

Despite this productivity, Whitlock has only picked up two Division I offers (Youngstown State and The Citadel). On Sunday, he received his second major PWO opportunity, which came from the Pitt Panthers. A couple weeks ago, Whitlock received that same opportunity from West Virginia.

“I’m truly just blessed to be able to start receiving some interest from bigger schools and it means a lot coming from my hometown, I would love to stay in Pittsburgh,” Whitlock told PSN. “I’m not sure what position I’m getting looked at. I didn’t really hear too much about that. They had my coach tell me what they said and he didn’t mention that”

While he appreciates these opportunities, Whitlock is hoping to start receiving more D-I offers so that his education would be paid for. He’ll wait to see if they come in but if they don’t, possibly staying home and playing for Pitt would have definite benefits.

“The pluses to it are they notice me and see the good I’m doing and it might open a couple of bigger schools eyes, and yes I am going to consider it but I would like to turn that PWO into a full offer.”
