Report: Pitt Running Back A.J. Davis Enters Transfer Portal

Published

on

The Pitt running back depth chart lost a player on Tuesday as A.J. Davis has decided to leave the program.

Per 247 Sports, Davis has decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. At the time of his commitment, Davis was a huge four-star get for Pitt back in their Class of 2017 but that talent never materialized on the field.

Davis finishes his Pitt career with 970 yards rushing and four touchdowns, while also catching 41 passes for 354 yards. Davis enjoyed his best season in 2019 when he rushed 127 times for 530 yards (4.2 yards) and 4 touchdowns. Following that season, injuries sidelined Davis and his playing time was impacted by the emergence of Vincent Davis, Israel Abanikanda and Rodney Hammonds.

Davis has appeared in only 3 games this season and gotten only 2 carries, one of those being a 18-yard touchdown against UMass.

Because he only played in 3 games, the senior from Florida will be permitted to use a redshirt and have one season of eligibility remaining.

Pitt’s running back depth chart now has Abanikanda, Vincent Davis, Hammond, Daniel Carter and Todd Sibley.

These things happen, you get passed on the depth chart if you’re a marginal talent.
Good luck to him !

It’s gotta be tough to put in so much work and then get passed over his senior season. Hopefully he gets a chance somewhere else and has some success.
