Pitt’s leading returning scorer Ithiel Horton was arrested Friday night on Pittsburgh’s South Side for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
KDKA-TV first reported that police were called to the scene around 1 a.m., when Horton was in a dispute with a tow truck operator who was towing Horton’s vehicle. Police accused Horton of striking an officer in the face and causing his lip to bleed before fleeing the scene on foot.
Horton was then arrested and is facing charges of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, along with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness.
Pitt athletics released the following comment regarding the situation.
“We are aware of a report regarding one of our student-athletes, but will decline comment until additional information is gathered.”
Pitt, which is already without Nike Sibande, opens its 2021-22 season on Tuesday vs. The Citadel.

players have to be held accountable for their own actions. coaches have nothing to do with how a player carries himself away from the court. He
s a grown adult ! Dont put that blame on the coach an his staff. Has nothing to do with how he runs his program .Loved the Capel hire but not working out. Time to move on. Shoots for the stars recruiting and comes up short everytime. Settles for players or scrambles to fill out the roster. If the reports are accurate this young man should be thrown off the team.

We keep coming up with excuses on Capel’s recruiting follies. But you cannot ignore the alleged criminal behavior of his players who had no disciplinary problems until arriving at Pitt. This also does not account for the numerous transfers midseason of the teams top players. There must be an amendment in his contract concerning his accountability for the actions of his players. Such an amendment should release Pitt from any buy-out clause in the worst coaching hire at Pitt since the football debacle. he can recurit but you can`t make players come here if there are other coaches giving improper gifts. He has lost recurits to schools that the alumi are involved behind the scences. Been there an seen it happen to recurits on visits . Money being left under pillows by the housekeeping maids.
