Duquesne Routed by Northeastern, 71-55 at Paradise Jam

Northeastern started on a 10-0 run an never looked back, as the Huskies never trailed in a 71-55 rout of Duquesne at Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on Friday.

Shaquille Walters scored 21 points and shot 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Jahmyl Telfort was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and the Huskies hit 10 of 15 from beyond the arc overall.

Duquesne, meanwhile, shot 4 of 21 from long range. Primo Spears led the Dukes with 15 points, but was just 4 of 13 from the floor. Spears did most of his damage at the free-throw line, where he hit 7 of 9. Tre Williams added 11 points on 4 of 10 shooting.

The Dukes out-rebounded Northeastern, 34-28, but the Dukes could never make enough shots to make a comeback. Instead, the Huskies opener their lead down the stretch.

Tyson Acuff made his first career start after appearing in all 18 games as a freshman in 2020-21, but ended up playing just 17 minutes. Jackie Johnson III and Leyon Ayers III saw big minutes off the bench for Duquesne.

The Dukes will now play on Saturday against either Colorado or Southern Illinois.
