Who Will Pitt Face in Charlotte? Atlantic Division Clinching Scenarios

Published

on

PITTSBURGH — Pitt has clinched a berth in the 2021 ACC Championship Game with the Panthers’ 48-38 win over Virginia at Heinz Field on Saturday.

Who will the Panthers face in two weeks in Charlotte? That’s still up in the air.

Wake Forest still controls its own destiny, even after the Demon Deacons were routed, 48-27 by Clemson on Saturday. The Deacs are the only Atlantic Division team with one conference loss and will clinch the title with a win at Boston College on Saturday.

If Wake Forest falters again — they’ve now lost two of three after starting 8-0 — then NC State becomes the next-most likely to claim the Atlantic crown. They would clinch a championship game berth with a Wake Forest loss, combined with the Wolfpack beating North Carolina.

Clemson is the final team that has a chance to win the Atlantic. The Tigers need a Wake Forest loss, and an NC State loss. They don’t need to win their final game, which is a non-conference game against SEC rival South Carolina.

This article says that wake forest has 1 conference loss and during the wake forest game today espn put up the conference standings and had wake forest at 7-0 in the conference.
By my count they lost to North Carolina and Clemson, which would make 2 conference losses. Am I missing something?

North Carolina wasn’t in the ACC rotation so the North Carolina game was scheduled as a non conference game.
