The Pitt Panthers have had Clemson’s number this year.
Pitt football took care of the Tigers at Heinz Field earlier this year and Pitt volleyball defeated Clemson with even more ease thanks to a 3-0 sweep in South Carolina.
The No. 3 Panthers (26-2, 15-2 ACC) won its eight-straight match on the backs of strong offensive performances from Leketor Member-Meneh and Chinaza Ndee, handling Clemson (12-15, 3-12) by 25-18, 25-19, and 25-12 set scores.
The end results of the first two sets don’t do justice to the control Pitt had over the entire match.
Aces by Serena Gray and Cat Flood helped propel the Panthers in the first set with Pitt out-serving Clemson four aces to none.
Set number two was tightly contested early on, but after trailing 10-8 recorded eight of the next nine and wouldn’t look back.
The third set was all Panthers after an early six combined service errors. The Blue and Gold accumulated multiple runs of success as 14 Panthers contributed to the win and a 13-point margin of victory without Kayla Lund.
Pitt finished the day with eight total aces despite 10 service errors compared to Clemson’s one and seven, respectively on senior day for the Tigers.
Member-Meneh recorded a match-high .556 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 18 attempts. Ndee also added 10 kills as the dynamic duo combined for 22 points. Lexis Akeo totaled 15 assists and Rachel Fairbanks 10 of her own.
The Panthers turn their attention to the biggest game of the 2021 season throughout the ACC and the entire country hosting undefeated No. 1 Louisville. The matchup begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Pitt’s regular-season finale on the ACC Network.
