Duquesne Guard Leon Ayers III Named A-10 Player of the Week

For the first time during this 2021-22 season, a member of the Duquesne men’s basketball program wins a conference player of the week honor.

Junior guard Leon Ayers III was announced as the A-10 Player of the Week on Monday, following his performances against Bradley and American.

The former transfer from Mercer averaged 23 points in both games, which were new career-highs for him. Against Bradley, Ayers stat sheet was 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in 34 minutes. He then followed that up with 23 points and 6 rebounds in the Dukes 88-79 win over American on Sunday. The Michigan native came off the bench against Bradley but was inserted into the lineup yesterday.

In the two games, Ayers averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 steals, shot 56% from the field and was 94% (16 of 17) from the free throw line.

Earlier this season, point guard Primo Spears won the A-10 Rookie of the Week.

The 3-4 Dukes return to action on Wednesday when they host Bowling Green (3-4). Tipoff is at 7 PM from the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
