The Pitt volleyball team enters the 2021 NCAA Tournament after one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, being rewarded with a top-four seed.

Pitt was named the No. 3 overall seed Sunday night and will host UMBC Friday at the Petersen Events Center.

The Panthers danced their way to the team’s highest seed ever awarded after a 26-3 overall mark and 15-3 record in ACC play.

Head coach Dan Fisher spoke on ESPNU during the NCAA Selection Show about the belief his team has in each other.

Undefeated ACC champion Louisville (27-0, 17-0) received the top spot, followed by Texas (24-1). Wisconsin (25-3) rounds out the top four. The Panthers lost to Louisville 3-1 in the final game of the regular season and finished 0-2 against the Cardinals this year.

Pitt has home court advantage throughout the first four rounds up until the Final Four, playing at both the Petersen Events Center and the Fitzgerald Field House.

Towson and Penn State will also play in Pittsburgh the same weekend as Pitt, with the winner potentially facing the Panthers in the second round.

It’s amazing how far this program has come- we are now at the point that we are expected to beat Penn State in the NCAA tournament and contend for the title! Of course, anything can happen in the tournament and hopefully we take it one game at a time- but keep it up ladies!
