While the final regular season College Football Playoff poll, which has already set up Alabama v. Cincinnati and Michigan v. Georgia for a spot in the national championship, will be released later today, the AP and USA TODAY Coaches polls have been released.
Pitt is ranked 13th in the AP and 12th in the Coaches polls, finishing the season as the highest-ranked ACC squad in both polls.
Alabama’s win over Georgia in the SEC championship vaulted the Crimson Tide to No. 1 in the AP Poll, leaping three spots. Michigan stuck at No. 2 with a Big 10 championship beatdown against Iowa, Georgia fell to No. 3 with its loss and Cincinnati also fell a spot despite winning the AAC championship.
Notre Dame, Baylor, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Utah round out the Top 10. Baylor jumped to No. 6 after winning the Big 12 championship over then-No. 5 Oklahoma State, and Utah jumped into the Top 10 after handling then-No. 10 in the Pac 12 championship.
Pitt’s win over Wake Forest in the ACC championship spurred a four spot jump, leaping to No. 13 — the highest ranking of the season. Wake Forest fell to No. 20 with the loss, also being leapfrogged by North Carolina State at No. 18 and Clemson at No. 19.
The Coaches poll is basically the same as the AP, with Alabama, Michigan, Georgia and Cincinnati ranked at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4. The Top 10 is also the same outside of Michigan State being flip-flopped with Utah at No. 10.
Pitt jumped to No. 12 in the Coaches poll, leaping four spots with the ACC title win — which is also Pitt’s highest ranking of the season. Wake Forest fell a spot to No. 19, being leap-frogged by North Carolina State again, and Clemson rounds out ACC teams ranked at No. 22.
The complete CFP Poll will be announced later this afternoon. To view the entire AP Poll, click here, and to view the entire Coaches Poll, click here.
