Report: Mark Whipple Moving Toward Being Hired as Nebraska OC

Published

on

It appears that where there’s smoke, there’s indeed a fire.

After reporting that then-Pitt offensive coordinator Mark Whipple interviewed with Nebraska on Sunday, the Lincoln Journal Star‘s Parker Gabriel has reported that Nebraska is moving closer to hiring Whipple as its new offensive coordinator.

Whipple resigned as Pitt’s offensive coordinator Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after a recruiting trip out west in which he wasn’t wearing Pitt gear. While that’s not a shock move, Whipple’s apparent move to Nebraska does raise some questions.

Nebraska hasn’t officially hired Whipple as its new offensive coordinator yet, but it does appear that it’s only a matter of time before Whipple winds up as the newest Cornhusker.

With Whipple’s abrupt departure, Pitt will likely turn to one or both of tight ends coach Tim Salem and wide receivers coach Brennan Marion to fill the void for Pitt’s Peach Bowl appearance, unless a permanent hire is made beforehand.

He seems like a good guy and he certainly works well with young Quarterbacks but I don’t think this will move the needle very far for Nebraska in my humble opinion.

Goes and recruits a QB for Nebraska while on Pitt’s dime. Guess that scumbag never heard of ethics?

I don’t cate that he’s leaving Pitt. That was expected. But it’s clear he lacks integrity.

Good riddance.

Yea that’s not at all what happened. Gabriel will be Nebraska’s QB next season…

Whipple is a terrible OC. He lucked into a great season thanks to Kenny’s miraculous turnaround/development. Won’t miss that old schlub and his goal line Vincent Davis play calling one bit.

Agreed. Credit for Pickett’s miraculous development goes to Peyton Manning who fortunately took a personal interest in him.

He’s the reason we did so well; he developed Pickett which is a trait lacking prior to his arrival. Narduzzi didn’t develop qb’s rather hit the portal before there was one. It’ll be interesting to see if he develops his current stable of qb’s or brings in a gun for hire.

Did Whipple develop Pickett, or did Pickett ‘develop’ Whipple??

I hope Purdy competes at Pitt.
