Ithiel Horton Reinstated to Pitt Program Months After Arrest

Published

on

On Thursday, Pitt announced that it has reinstated wing Ithiel Horton, shortly after today’s court case in which Horton’s charges were dropped.

“We are grateful that Ithiel’s situation has been resolved,” Jeff Capel said in a release. “It is unfortunate that he had to miss the past two months, but I know he has remained hungry to get back with his teammates and have the opportunity to represent the University of Pittsburgh again. I am really proud of the way he handled his academic responsibilities, making the Dean’s List, while dealing with this situation. Ithiel has remained positive and confident throughout this process and we are eager to integrate him back into the team. His teammates were excited when they heard he has been cleared to rejoin the group. We look forward to his full return to the University of Pittsburgh and the opportunity to continue to mentor and lead a young man eager to make the most of his opportunity here.”

His charges – Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness – were all dismissed, according to court records obtained by Pittsburgh Sports Now. These charges stemmed from an incident back in early November after Horton allegedly punched a police officer on the South Side in an altercation.

Last year, Horton averaged 8.9 points per game and hit 43 three-pointers in 22 appearances for Pitt. For a team that is shooting 61.2% from the field as well as just 29.8% from three-point land, Horton is a huge addition to the mix.

“I grateful to have this situation resolved and have the opportunity to get back to my life as a member of the Pitt basketball team and to fully return to the University of Pittsburgh,” Horton said. “The past two months have been extremely difficult but the support and constant encouragement from my family, Coach Capel, the rest of the coaching staff and my teammates really helped me stay strong and keep working. I am also thankful for the support and guidance from [Director of Athletics] Heather Lyke and the rest of the leadership group here at Pitt. I am just ready to put this behind me and get back out on the court with my teammates.”

Read a little more man. I just share what I learn from other sources. You act like I’m making this stuff up Bro.

It was a scheduling issue and it looks like the cops can refile.

Why are the charges being refiled? They were dismissed altogether. Your question makes no sense.

Per the PG:

“Thursday’s development may not signal the end of Horton’s legal ordeal. Mike Manko, chief spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said the officer who filed the complaint, who is also the alleged victim, had a scheduling conflict Thursday and could not appear for the hearing. The charges are expected to be refiled.”

C’oman man!

Sounds like you are a Trumper and don’t like the truth. . . the PG, like all legitimate news sources, simply reports what people say and do. You obviously don’t like when your boy Trump and the republicans are jacka** crooks and cons, so bury your head in the sand and act like the truth are lies.

It’s great fun seeing these responders get under your skin “Sturg.” How does it feel being consistently embarrassed and looking like a pathetic low culture fool?

You’re projecting again Sturg. I’m sure that you don’t know what this means since you’re a moron but it has a lot to do with your mental illness. Also, still laughing at your idiotic prediction that Williams from Louisville would dominate against Pitt. 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 turnovers. Keep posting & we’ll keep laughing at you.

People like to act like this kid and other one (nike or adidas or something) were/are game changers. They aren’t. Both are/were marginal players on a bad team

They changed a few games last year. If you think that Pitt would not have a better record this year with Horton & Sibande in the lineup then you are dumber Justin Dietrich.
