It wasn’t pretty to watch from an offensive perspective but that’s to be expected when a team is down to their third string quarterback.
Despite playing without Heisman Trophy finalist Kenny Pickett and then losing Nick Patti early on to a shoulder injury, Pitt led Michigan State for most of the game. But after playing great all game, their defense allowed a last minute drive as the Panthers fell to Michigan State, 31-21, in the Peach Bowl.

Hail of a season @Pitt_FB In the face of adversity almost pulled off the win tonight. Honestly couldn’t ask any more from the players. So proud to cheer for this team! Traveling to all the games this year was a heck of a ride. Loved every trip. Can’t wait until next season! #H2P

I know @Pitt_FB wanted to end this year with a bowl win… but you guys should be proud of the special season you had! It was fun to 👀 a good 🏈team compete every weekend. This championship squad will forever have a special bond that just can’t be explained. Cherish that🙏🏾 #H2P

The ending was tough but as a Pitt fan you can’t be legitimately upset about how that went down. No consequences to the loss. It was a game for fun and fun was had. Had a shot with QB3. Big time bowl, fans showed up, great year, bright future.

I can’t describe the love I have for this team and university. #H2P forever

3rd string QB and still hung with the #10 team in the country.

I’m not even upset in the slightest that Pitt lost with its 3rd string QB. But it is funny to see people say “well you have to remember that Kenneth Walker didn’t play either” as if RB as nearly as important as QB lmao.

You aren't going to hear one complaint or shred of disappointment from me. The kids played unbelievably hard despite almost impossible adversity and almost pulled it off. Best season of my Pitt football watching life. I won't soon forget it. #H2P

I had no expectations for Davis Beville, but you can’t give up that lead and just completely give up on offense. Salem did not help out on offense at all.
— h2p (@harrlos) December 31, 2021
also: keeping it close with a top ten team with your third string QB and then losing is NOT A PITTING
— festive ACC CHAMP obnoxiously pitt girl 🎄 (@_ms_flood) December 31, 2021
#Pitt did a good job tonite considering they only played defense after Patti had to leave the game. The D is in good shape for the future if they don’t have to spend 80% of the game on the field. Patti / Slovis should keep the offense on track even if Marion jumps ship! #H2P
— Pitt & Pendulum (@NoPlaceLikePitt) December 31, 2021
All things considered, #Pitt has plenty to celebrate about the season. The #PeachBowl loss is a missed opportunity at 12 wins and an NY6 Bowl win for the first time in 40 years, but any #H2P fan would've taken 11-3, #ACC champs if you told them at the beginning of the season.
— Christopher Carter (@CarterCritiques) December 31, 2021
The most disappointing part of that for Pitt is that Pickett didn’t play and they still didn’t really get to see what Patti can do and that’s a shame.
— Alan Saunders (@ASaunders_PGH) December 31, 2021
13 play, 75 yard drive, and an 11 play 71 yard drive that took just 2:51, both late in the game. Have to step up to save your 3rd string QB.
— Chris Dokish (@ChrisDokish) December 31, 2021
The fact that Pitt was within striking distance (and probably should have beaten) the number 10 team in the country with their third string QB says a lot about this team. I really feel bad for the seniors but a great year non the less
— Nick Gordon (@Nick_Gordon19) December 31, 2021
Now I feel bad for Beville I hate to see it end like that. I just hated to see him take a huge loss every sack but the O Line did him zero favors there was pressure every snap.
— Nathan DiMarco (@PITTPANFAN) December 31, 2021
What sucks is that Michigan State isn’t even that good. With Patti Pitt wins that game. With Pickett they win by 20.

That's a pretty good effort by Pitt given the circumstances.

Was a good year…not a great year. Awful loss….
— Bob Greenburg (@BobGreenburg) December 31, 2021
The ending is so Pitt
— Austin Bechtold (@AustinRBechtold) December 31, 2021
That stings, but takes nothing away from a phenomenal season. Had a chance with less than a minute left to win a NY6 bowl with our 3rd string QB. Hail to Pitt.
— The Loyal Sons (@TheLoyalSons) December 31, 2021
What’s the point being a Pitt fan? Why don’t we just lose by 30 points like all the bad teams do?
Nope instead, we get some hope until the final minute and fuck it up, like always.
— Tristan Freeman (@hoopsnut351) December 31, 2021
Bad defense, but even worse offense for Pitt.
— Fifth Quarter Pitt (@FQPitt) December 31, 2021
Offensive line was putrid tonight. Defense didn’t have anything left at the end because the offense couldn’t get a 1st down
