The Atlantic Coast Conference has named University of Pittsburgh 197-pounder, Nino Bonaccorsi, ACC Wrestler of the Week.

The recognition comes after Bonaccorsi served ACC’s defending Wrestler of the Week, Virginia’s No. 11, Jay Aiello his first loss of the season at Friday’s dual meet at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.

Following the match, No. 8 Bonaccorsi, reflected on his career. “I really love wrestling out here,” Bonaccorsi said. “The older I get, I’m always grateful for the sport and the alternative is just watching.”

The redshirt senior has been an integral part to the team’s winning record this year. In the Panther’s match-up against Arizona State on January 14th, Bonaccorsi helped secure the team win after putting the Sun Devil’s Jake Ortiz on his back to win the match in the first period.

The All-American said after his latest win, “I take a step back and say hey, above all else, above all the wins and losses, this is what I love to do.”

Bonaccorsi shares this week’s ACC Wrestler of the Week title with North Carolina’s Clay Lautt, who also defeated a top 15 ranked wrestler last week.

The No. 18 Panthers will take the mat again on Sunday, January 30th against No. 7 Virginia Tech at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse starting at 2 p.m.
