Player Reaction From Pitt Football 2022 Junior Day

The Pitt football program ended the month of January by hosting a number of recruits from different classes on unofficial visits.

Pat Narduzzi and his staff hosted juniors, sophomores, freshman and player from all different states along the east coast.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has been working all day to try and identify players that spent the day with Pitt and to get their reaction to their experience.

Here is the reaction that we’ve received, and we’ll add to this story as we talk to more recruits.

Trakwon Harris, 2023 Defensive back from West Palm Beach, Florida– “The day was amazing, and I had a great time. I felt like I built a short relationship with every coach that I encountered, especially Coach Partridge. The other coaches also were amazing because they made me feel like home even if I was hours away. The best part was when we got to meet Head Coach Pat Narduzzi because he has a great personality and he completely caught me off guard. I thought he was a very strict, mean coach but he was very welcoming to everyone. I learned how Pitt operates their secondary through Coach Saunders and Coach Collins.”

Brandon Banks, 2024 Safety from Aliquippa High School– “My overall thoughts on the day was that I really like Pitt. I really like how Coach Narduzzi talked about everything being about family. The best part of the visit today I would say was getting to be in a defensive back meeting with the coaches and seeing some of the coverages they run. A pleasant surprise about Pitt was how they share a facility with the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

Andrew Marshall, 2023 Linebacker from Carroll, Ohio– “It was a great experience to get see the great facilities and to spend time with the coaches. I was blown away by how top notch the facilities are. I think the best part of my day was getting to spend time with my position coach and to get to learn the schemes and formations they run as a defense. I learned about the Cathedral of Learning. All of the classrooms were based off of different countries around the world.”

Jaden Ball, 2024 Offensive Lineman from Carroll, Ohio– “My day was really good. I had some good talks with my position coaches and also with the coach that recruits my area. The best part of my day was definitely talking to coaches and making connections with them. I learned how well their athletes do in school and all the resources they are given and was surprised how big the Cathedral of Learning was.”

Donovan Walker, 2023 Safety from Aliquippa High School- “My overall thoughts on the day was great. It was a great day to really see what Pitt football was all about and learn more about the team and staff. The best part for me that happened today was probably going over everything in the defensive backs meetings and learning about their defense. As a defensive player, you have to pay attention to detail and learn everyday and they were preaching that today. What I learned about Pitt is they been graduating about 100% of their football athletes every year, they put people in the NFL, and hold life long relationships after football.”

Tiqwai Hayes, 2025 Running back from Aliquippa High School– “My overall day was really good. Definitely the campus and the facility, I saw some of the guys that go there from Quip and Coach LaSala was very, very cool and also Coach Powell. My favorite part of the day was the Cathedral and how all the classes are all smaller and you can really get closer with your professor. But most of all, Coach Junko as our guide it was hilarious. I learned even some more knowledge on the position I play, and I can apply it to my game and have a bigger advantage on the high school level thanks to Coach Powell. He’s a really cool dude and super calm and just taught a lot”

Zyian Moultrie-Goddard, 2023 Linebacker from Bronx, New York– “I had a great day today. I really liked the coaching staff. They are all down to earth and great people. I really loved Coach Narduzzi’s way of coaching. The best part of the day was breaking down the defense with Coach Manalac and watching film. The thing that surprised me was that I didn’t know how much history was around the school.”

Jason McBride, Jr., 2023 Defensive Tackle from Aliquippa High School– “I think it was a great experience. I learned a lot from Coach P and Coach Narduzzi and Pitt is actually it. Best parts of my day were getting in the film room with Coach P and taking pictures. Pitt has been having the best defense for the past 3, to 4 years and I really like it alot.”

I appreciate you sharing the insights of these young men and their families. You do such a professional job. I feel confident in the direction Pat Narduzzi and his team have Pitt headed in. I only hope these young men can truly appreciate what he is doing. I think of Pitt’s “glory days” as defined by the bullies in the trenches. I think of Jimbo Covert, Bill Fralic, Russ Grimm among many others led by Joe Moore. The pride we had in our D-line and linebackers with Hugh Green, Chris Doleman, and the Goose again just to name a few.… Read more »
