New York DE Dillan Fontus Definitely Considering Pitt After Visit

Offering an out of state player and trying to get them to know about your program and university is one thing. But getting them to visit the school is entirely different and the goal of every football program.

There are only so many pictures and videos that you can send them as a way of trying to impress and get them seriously interested.

That’s why coaches try and get as many players as they can to come on unofficial and official visits. Most times it entirely changes a recruits perception and opinion about that school.

A good example of this is 2023 3-star defensive end Dillan Fontus.

Fontus (6-foot-5, 260-pounds) is from Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, New York. Fontus received his offer from Tim Salem back in October and visited Pitt for the first time on Saturday.

Prior to this weekend, Pitt was really just another offer that Fontus had earned but his opinion of the Panthers program has entirely changed after his visit.

“I felt like the whole visit was smooth, it was very organized and things were done in a timely manner,” said Fontus. “I really liked all the coaches general demeanor, the way they talked with me, the way they spoke to us. Definitely, I really liked the guidelines that the school lives by. A lot of the coaches were telling me they stress consistency. The overall visit was just very, very good.”

”Coach Salem was with me the entire trip. We had the chance to have conversations about many different things. For me, it was important to have the chance to spend so much time being around him. I felt that it was very cool to spend so much time around him because building a relationship with coaches is very, very important. Having that relationship down the road and in the present is important.”

A player sometimes can feel lost when making  a visit with so many other players but Fontus didn’t feel that way and left feeling as though he’s a priority recruit for this Pitt staff.

“They let it be known that they want me at their school and made me feel like a top priority,” said Fontus. “I spoke with Coach Narduzzi and other assistants and they made it pretty apparent that they wanted me.”

Fontus holds an offer list from Pitt, Ole Miss, Arizona, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple and Florida Atlantic but after this weekend, Pitt is likely a school that Fontus will seriously consider in the future.

”Definitely, now that I had a chance to see the school and meet their coaching staff, it definitely changed my idea of the school. Getting to see the city and the campus, that changed my opinion on if I were to go there now.”
