MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Robert Morris kept things close throughout the game, but eventually fell to Oakland after an up-and-down battle on Friday night at the UPMC Events Center.

After a back-and-forth game the whole way through, Robert Morris found itself in a three-point game with just 4.5 seconds remaining.

Out of an Andy-Toole-called timeout, the Colonials looked to to send the game to overtime by heaving a deep pass three-quarters of the way down the court.

After the pass was intercepted by the Oakland defense, Robert Morris’ hopes were gone and the Grizzlies had come away with the win.

Robert Morris’ leading scorer on the year Kahliel Spear once again carried the load offensively for the Colonials, going 6 for 9 from the field and dropping 14 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds, earning him his seventh double-double of the year.

Matt Mayers followed with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while Jaron Williams contributed nine points and four rebounds in the loss.

Wing Jamal Cain led the way for Oakland, scoring 17 first-half points and continuing his dominance in the second half to finish the night with a game-high 10-of-19 shooting.

Cain and the Grizzlies shot 48.3% from the field in the win, while RMU shot 49% in the tight matchup.

Oakland also received a solid game from Trey Townsend, who finished with 18 points and six rebounds in the win.

With the loss, Robert Morris falls to 6-19 overall, as well as 5-12 in Horizon League play.

Robert Morris will continue its season on Sunday, Feb. 13 at Youngstown State. That game will tip off at noon and will be televised on ESPN+.
