On Friday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that McKeesport native and former WNBA star Swin Cash is one of the finalists for the hall’s class of 2022.
This is Cash’s third-straight year on the ballot. Cash enjoyed a 17-year WNBA career. Cash, who graduated from McKeesport High School, was a two-time collegiate national champion at UConn under legendary coach Geno Auriema. She is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
She was second overall pick in the 2002 WNBA draft and played 15 seasons in the league. During that time, she was a four-time all-star, two-time All-WNBA Second Team and three-time WNBA Champion, where she won the Detroit Shock’s first two titles in 2003 and 2006 and then the 2010 title for the Seattle Storm.
Cash is now working with the New Orleans Pelicans as their Vice President of Basketball Operations & Team Development. Back in 2020, she was voted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, as a part of its Class of 2020.
