Pitt Blown out By Miami at Home, 85-64

PITTSBURGH — On Tuesday night, Pitt lost its second straight game, this time falling to Miami by a lopsided score of 85-64.

The Canes jumped on Pitt from the very start, taking an early 14-2 lead and never once letting the Panthers grab the lead in the game. Jim Larrañaga’s squad shot the lights out, hitting 55% of their shots in the win. Four players scored in double figures, led by electrifying guard Charlie Moore, who dropped 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Kam McGusty also scored 19 points, while Sam Waardenburg added 12, and Jordan Miller 12 to lead the ‘Canes to their 20th win of the season.

Pitt turned the ball over 20 times in the loss, its third game with at least 20. The Panthers shot a solid 48% from the field, but went just 5 for 17 from three-point range.

John Hugley had another strong game down low, scoring 20 points on 7 for 9 from the field and grabbing seven rebounds in the loss. Jamarius Burton followed Hugley with 12 points of his own, rebounding from his four-point performance against Georgia Tech.

After starting out 3 for 3 from the field, Pitt’s Mo Gueye left the game after crashing to the floor hard on a missed dunk attempt. Gueye returned to the floor in the second half and scored three points, to finish the game with a total of 11.

With the loss, Pitt falls to 11-18 overall, along with 6-12 in conference.

Pitt will look to snap its two-game losing streak when it returns to the floor on Tuesday, March 1 against Duke. The Panthers will host Mike Krzyzewski and the ACC-best Blue Devils in Krzyzewski’s final regular season road game of his coaching career.

Seen enough? I watch this entire debacle.

Lazy, uninspired play. Turnovers. Sloppy defense.

Capel just sits there.

He used to have a lot to say.

Not so much anymore.

“But three ACC wins in a row!”

Four years in and this team stinks.

Awful.

I was excited by Capel’s hire. I really thought he would do a GREAT job.

What’s the upside to this coach?

I think he will get one more season somehow, but I don’t see things getting better.

I wasn’t as big on his hire as most ppl because I worried about him being able to recruit here. I still felt alright about it. I do think he gets next year. I also agree with you that I don’t really see much upside. He obviously bought some goodwill with the three wins in a row and fans got their hopes up again. Lyke has to be seeing the same thing. She’s not going to throw him under the bus while the season is still playing out, but if they lay some more turds and don’t win another game… Read more »

There is seemingly no bottom to this debacle of a season. And yet there will still be a cadre of fanboys on this site blathering about how Nike Sabande would have made all the difference. Four seasons in. No progress. No recruits for next year.

While all the comments here from the same psu troll will sound like a broken record (dumpster fire, no recruits, blah blah blah) I’m still proud to be a Pitt supporter as opposed to the the den of filth in State College that you proudly root for.

And every word is true. Not a PSY “troll” at all, skippy. I’m a Pitt alum. Got my MBA there. Just a realist. And for you to call anything a “broken record? Maybe look up the definition of irony, Pathetic apologist for a pathetic program.

Nope, you are a sad psu troll who clearly hates Pitt & everyone knows it. And to expect any sane person to believe that you have a MBA is laughable.

You also forgot to take your pills today Pap. Remember when your hero JoePa forgot to take his pills & crapped his pants on the sideline? Looks like it’s gonna be a brown out at your soon to be condemned studio apartment tonight.

Here’s some advice for you Pap. That horrible stench that you’re smelling, it’s coming from your pants. It really must suck to be a feeble old man but at least you have your imaginary MBA.

Capel has to go. Whatever the cost hire Orlando Antiqua away from Calapari. Pitt is not Kentucky but Orlando has proven to be one of the top recruiters at each program he worked for: 3 6* recruits for 2022 and he’s not done yet, more on the way.

Yes Antigua (note correct spelling) did an outstanding job recruiting at South Florida during his one & only chance to be a head coach. He did so well that his record was 22-55.
