While the Duquesne Dukes didn’t achieve the team success that they were hoping for, one of their young players enjoyed tremendous individual success.
For the third time this season, Dukes freshman point guard Primo Spears was named the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week.
Duquesne basketball on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by The Summit Academy: setting young men on the path to a better future.
In two games last week, Spears averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The native of Hartford, Connecticut equaled a Duquesne freshman record when he scored 34 points in Duquesne’s loss to LaSalle.
In 29 games this season, Spears is averaging 12.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds for the Dukes.
The backcourt of Spears and fellow freshman Jackie Johnson III, who is averaging 9.4 points this season, gives Keith Dambrot and Duquesne two solid, young guards for the future.
