Pitt Staff Reaches Out to Brown Transfer Jaylan Gainey

With their season now officially finished, Jeff Capel and his staff have immediately jumped into looking to improve their future roster.

Brown senior forward Jaylan Gainey told Pittsburgh Sports Now that the Panthers staff has already reached out to him. Brown officially entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Gainey is a 6’9”, 220 pound forward from Greensboro, North Carolina. This past season, Gainey averaged 9.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game. He shot an impressive 70.3% from the field.

For the second straight season, Gainey was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, as he continues to be one of the top shot blockers in the country. In a late season win over Columbia, Gainey recorded a school record with 8 blocked shots.

On3Sports Jamie Shaw reports this morning that aside from Pitt, Gainey has also received early contact from Creighton, Iowa State, Temple, Georgetown, Georgia Washington, Ole Miss, Clemson, Oklahoma and St. Bonaventure.

Pitt is looking to add multiple players to their front court and Gainey would be a good start.

I can ask all the model, movies and sports stars to my house for dinner. They actually have to arrive and stay dinner for it to count. I however have never invited anyone like that so my percentage is the same as Capel.

A number of Ivy League seniors have made a
successful transition to upper division 1 basketball.
Of course, one thing that you are guaranteed
is that the young men are smart, something
Pitt has seemingly been lacking.
