Pitt’s pass-rushing prowess is well-known. With a defense constructed to get after opposing quarterbacks, defensive ends thrive in the system.

The 2022 defensive end room is deep, but the new faces in the room continue to push the older guys to seasons that lead college football in sacks, tackles for loss and pressuring the quarterback — with Pitt ranked second in sacks in 2021 and first in sacks since 2019.

2023 four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu, a 6-foot-6, 230-pounder from Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, could be a part of the next wave of star defensive end recruits.

Umeozulu confirmed on Twitter that he will be in Pittsburgh on Saturday, March 19, a practice day for Pitt down at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side.

Umeozulu holds offers from Boston College, Clemson, UCONN, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Howard, Jackson State, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington, West Virginia, Buffalo, Tennessee State and Toledo.

The highly in-demand edge rusher is ranked as a Top-200 recruit according to both 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports rates him as the 134th-ranked recruit in the class of 2023, 10th-ranked edge and second-ranked recruit from Maryland, while Rivals rates him as the 174th-ranked recruit in the class, eighth-ranked weakside edge and second-ranked recruit from Maryland.

With a relationship being formed with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge and running backs coach Andre Powell, Pitt was among the first 10 schools to offer Umeozulu out of Flowers.

Umeozulu has already visited Ohio State, Penn State, Duke and North Carolina in 2022, and he’ll likely make visits across the country as his recruiting chase heats up even further.

Umeozulu is not the only four-star recruit that will be attending Pitt’s spring practices this week, as PSN has found out a couple of top-rated 2023 recruits will be at the Rooney Complex this week.
