On Friday, Pittsburgh native and former Colgate star Nelly Cummings committed to Pitt, choosing to come home and play for his hometown team for his final year of college eligibility.
Cummings is a 6-foot point guard who played for Lincoln Park in his high school career. He then played one season at Bowling Green State, but after that transferred to Colgate. For Colgate, Cummings scored over 1,000 points in three seasons, averaging 14.7 points per game in his most recent campaign.
Ever since he entered the transfer portal, Cummings heard from a number of high major programs, but Pitt stood out in the process and he quickly decided to come to play for Jeff Capel and his staff. Capel hosted Cummings on an unofficial visit last week, and shortly after went out to his home for an in-home visit with his family.
Cummings now fills one of Pitt’s open scholarships, bringing the total of open spots down to six now.
