On Wednesday, just hours after entering the transfer portal, former Wichita State Shocker Dexter Dennis heard from the Pitt staff, he told Pittsburgh Sports Now.
Dennis is a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 8.4 points per game last season as a junior. He hit 54 of his 135 three-point attempts, a 40% mark from deep. The AAC Defensive Player of the Year blocked 24 shots this season, and also had 24 steals. A seasoned veteran, he has played four seasons for the Shockers, averaging at least 8.4 points in each of the four.
Dennis told PSN that he also heard from Indiana, UCF, ETSU, South Alabama, Wake Forest, Stetson, Hofstra, NC State, Loyola Chicago, and more on Wednesday.
Pitt currently has seven open scholarships and will surely be targeting shooters like Dennis in the portal. The Panthers lost their two top three-point shooters, Mo Gueye and Ithiel Horton, and will need to stock up on outside help.
Wouldn’t be a shocker if we landed him…
my head is spinning with the total # of players moving into the portal. even some of the st. peters guys.
also, saw that toney has declared for the draft. not sure if he signed with an agent.
Wrong stat line for 3 point shooting. That was his freshman year. Shot 29.7% from deep last year. He is a good defensive wing though.
