On Monday, Jacksonville transfer Rod Brown told Pittsburgh Sports Now that Pitt has shown interest in him.
Brown is a 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 2.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game this season for Jacksonville. Prior to his career at JU, he started his college ball at Wichita State from 2017-19. Then, he played a year at Pearl River CC. After that, he transferred to Jacksonville.
In his career, he has played in 84 games, averaging 3.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45% from the field and 9% from three-point range (1-for-11 career). His best season came for New Mexico last year, when he averaged 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Brown, while at Wichita State, was teammates with current Pitt guard Jamarius Burton.
“He was a player with tremendous motor,” Burton said about Brown prior to Pitt’s game against JU. “He has a body type that is unlike any other. So that should be something that we have to keep our eyes out for tomorrow afternoon.”
Pitt’s Jamarius Burton Ready to Compete Against Former Wichita State Teammate Rod Brown
Scrape scrape scrape. How low can this program go? 3 pt scorers from the A-Sun.
Need to reshuffle the staff! They aren’t busting their butts on recuriting. After low no name players.
Is it me or did he say he had to recruit better players, SMH !!!!
Have to fill the bench. Maybe then, starters coming?
As a diehard Pitt fan, and someone who knows a lot of the former players personally. This is appalling, and needs to be rectified immediately. Recruit kids from low major d1 schools to come in and compete in one of the best basketball conferences? I think it’s time Capel gets his eyes and head checked. Because this is no better than what Stallings did to the program!
You don’t know any of the formal players personally.
Stallings recruited Marcus Carr who became All Big 10, and Parker Stewart who had a solid year at IU. If he had more than 2 years, who knows? Really couldn’t be any worse than we’re living with now. Gosh I miss Dixon
Jamie didn’t want to coach in the ACC. The day KS was introduced as Jamie’s replacement, I cancelled my season mbb tickets. The day after he was fired I renewed them. Since then, we endured a period of “no one” of note wanted the job and we were looking at the St Bonnie coach until Capel threw his hat into the ring, Covid, NIL, extra year of eligibility and instant transferability. The landscape of college athletics were turned on its head. Every team in the final four had at least one instant transfer and players using a fifth season. Calipari… Read more »
349 other Division 1 teams have dealt with the same challenges. He is being paid handsomely to build a roster, establish a program and win. He has been a miserable failure in all facets. Worst Coach in the Power 5.
Is there any basketball player out there that Pitt is not interested in?Pitt basically has ‘no starters’.The entire Pitt basketball will be nothing more than a concocted mess of ‘portal transfer’ players. Is ‘PITT’ really an ‘ACC’ team? You wouldn’t know it ..Who’s leaving the program next? Who’s coming to the program next? Who knows?
No starters? Hugley, Burton, Cummings, Sibande.
This program is a complete disgrace.
Capel was supposed to be a great recruiter at Duke. Hasn’t happened at Pitt. Next season is last chance.
