Pitt may not have secured a commitment from 2023 four-star Jamiel Lyons (Philadelphia, Pa.) today, but another elite 2023 four-star defensive end has named Pitt to his list of finalists.

Dashawn Womack, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md., narrowed down a list of 27 offers to a Top 10 of Georgia, Temple, Rutgers, Boston College, Ole Miss, Michigan, Auburn, Maryland, LSU and Pitt.

Womack has made visits to Michigan, Maryland, Ole Miss among his contenders, along with West Virginia and Penn State visits this year, and he made a trip to Pittsburgh a week ago.

Womack would be a key addition from a powerhouse high school program in the cycle, adding another top-tier defensive end to Pitt’s already loaded system. The talented edge rusher helped lead St. Frances to an 8-1 record in 2021 against regional giant from around the country.

247Sports rates Womack as the 148th-ranked recruit in the cycle (19th-ranked defensive lineman and the fifth-ranked recruit from Maryland) while Rivals ranks him as the 32nd-ranked strongside defensive end and the seventh-ranked recruit from Maryland.

Neither 247Sports nor Rivals has officially projected Womack’s commitment yet.

Four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu (Upper Marlboro, Md.), four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring (West Bloomfield, Mi.), three-star cornerback Jermaine Mathews (Cincinnati, Oh.), three-star tight end Vance Bolyard (Greensboro, N.C.) and three-star defensive lineman Kamari Burns (Columbus, Oh.) have all named Pitt to their respective lists of top schools.

You know you are not a top program when you get excited about making a recruit’s top 10

Rich Johnson: Go spread your negativity somewhere else! But I’m sure you don’t have anywhere else to go. And I’m sure you wonder why no one likes or wants to be around you.
