Pitt Officially Signs 6-foot-11 Forward Fede Federiko

On Friday, Pitt officially signed JuCo forward Fede Federiko after he committed to the program earlier this week.

“Fede is a mobile big man with a nice combination of length and athleticism,” head coach Jeff Capel said in a release. “He has the ability to be an outstanding shot blocker and his offensive game continues to evolve. Fede is a high-character post player who is just scratching the surface of his potential. He is a nice compliment on the interior to John [Hugley] and we look forward to aiding his development on and off the court.”

Federiko stands at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-3 wing span, and plays inside the paint. He was born in Cairo, Egypt, and grew up in Helsinki, Finland, prior to moving to the United States and playing his last year of high-school ball with First Love Christian Academy. After that, he played one season of junior college ball with Northern Oklahoma College, where he averaged 11.7 points per game along with 8.6 rebounds. He now has three years of eligibility remaining in his college career.

Pitt has now added two forwards this offseason, with the additions of Federiko and Iowa State transfer Blake Hinson. The Panthers also added Nelly Cummings, a guard who is originally from Pittsburgh.

Pitt currently has five open scholarships to fill, and is looking to prospects in the portal as well as at the high school level to fill them. Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham are currently visiting Pitt, while Akok Akok is also slated to take a trip to Pitt this weekend. In addition to those three, guards Meechie Johnson and Adou Thiero both recently visited the program last week, and forward Miryne Thomas included the Panthers in his top schools list weeks ago.
