A day after shutting down No. 4 Miami’s offense, Panthers starter Billy Corcoran was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. Corcoran allowed just four baserunners—and one run—across seven innings pitched, and struck out eight Hurricanes batters.
Corcoran stands 6-foot-8, a power pitcher with a plus changeup who was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school, but chose to remain with the Panthers. He struggled with injuries in a brief 2021 campaign but rebounded this season, striking out 45 batters across 59 innings to the tune of a 3.05 ERA.
The award, Corcoran’s first, comes on the heels of a dominant 4-0 stretch where he’s recorded a 1.55 ERA and 26 strikeouts across 29 innings. With three of those wins against top five teams, the Panthers have been able to rely on Corcoran as many of their best hitters recover from injury.
