Pitt Target Meechie Johnson Announcing Commitment Monday Afternoon

Published

on

On Monday afternoon around 4 p.m., one of Pitt’s top targets in the transfer portal, Meechie Johnson, will be announcing his commitment.

In the past week, Johnson visited Pitt, DePaul, South Carolina, and LSU. The 6-foot-2 guard recently entered the transfer portal after playing two seasons for Ohio State. A Cleveland native, Johnson averaged 4.4 points this season for the Buckeyes, shooting 31% from the floor and 32% from three-point range. In Ohio State’s first and second-round NCAA Tournament games in Pittsburgh this year, Johnson saw the floor for a combined 31 minutes, hitting one three pointer in each of the two games. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The Panthers currently have five scholarships to fill, as the staff has signed Fede Federiko, Blake Hinson, and Nelly Cummings so far this offseason. Being from Cleveland, Johnson is known to have a solid relationship with Pitt’s star big John Hugley. Will Hugley’s friendship and Pitt’s pitch be enough to land the former four-star prospect?

I really don’t think he is a good fit to play under capel, but I’m still rooting for him to go to pitt because the talent is crazy.

True Freshman, 17 minutes a game and Big10. If he had better numbers he wouldn’t be available. Such is life in The NCAA Chaos Portal.

He wasn’t a true freshman. He played 2 years at OSU. 1.7 and 4.3 ppg

Yep. It is becoming obvious that no one wants to play here anymore. It must be really, really bad.

Yeah. He’s signed a JC project. A guy from the Patriot League who is going to try and build stats for a pro career and a 10ppg scorer from the bottom of the SEC who hasn’t played since 2020 and is on his 3rd school. Quite a program builder we’ve got

You can clearly fix teams in a hurry ala Iowa State who went from 2 wins to 22 wins and a Sweet 16….in one Transfer Portal cycle. If you have the touch…..Felton doesn’t seem to possess. Grabs low hanging fruit which doesn’t entice any of the better fruit.

It was an Honor just being Nominated! Being in the Running for Top Tier guys has to be a Roller Coaster of emotions depending upon your ego. It’s become a glorified Travel/AAU ‘Drama’ likeness with the Transfer Portal.

Needed a possible top flight Guard…since the Colgate kid is just a one year fix and is Colgate after all. And we got another whiff. To South Carolina who is installing a brand new coach and is a SEC bottom feeder.

Who would have thought years later Stallings wouldn’t look so bad.
