Pitt BB Recruiting

Updated Pitt Basketball Scholarship Board Following Diaz-Graham Commitments

Published

on

Jeff Capel began the off-season with the monumental task of trying to fill eight open scholarships brought about by transfers and graduations.

The rebuild began with the addition of transfer point guard Nelly Cummings, followed by the signings of wing Blake Hinson and forward Federiko Federiko. Late Wednesday afternoon, Pitt earned commitment No’s. 4 and 5 with the additions of Spanish twin forwards Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham.

With these five newcomers, the Panthers have added a point guard, a wing and three forwards.

Here’s a look at what the complete Pitt 2022-23 depth chart looks like, with still three scholarships able to be used.

Looking at the depth chart and three open scholarships left, Pitt will no doubt bring in a veteran guard. Along with a guard, I would suspect Capel looks to add a veteran big man to either play alongside or behind Hugley. While Federiko and the Diaz-Graham brothers add size, they don’t bring any experience and very little bulk. Look for that to be a priority.

As far as the last scholarship, it’s not a lock that Capel uses it and could instead use to save it for his class of 2023, unless he’s able to bring in a graduate transfer or a player with super senior eligibility. If Pitt decides to use up that scholarship, I would look for them to add a wing with the ability to slash to the hoop and who’s a threat to score.

As things stand now, Pitt will enter the season with three seniors- Jamarius Burton, Nike Sibande and Nelly Cummings.

A kid I played high school basketball with is a coach at IMG. He has been there about 15 years and has seen a ton of basketball talent come through. He believes both of the twins should be top 30 recruits and that they will both be instant contributors.
Great kids that can instantly turn the pitt team into a winner,

Watching the videos on the twins, they play European big men basketball/stretch the court. I agree the twins can be the vital key, if Hugley can lose weight therefore making himself a legitimate bog-time center. At 270, rather than 240 his normal playing weight he lost his quickness, ability to get off the floor quickly and rebound and to guard the rim. Watch his senior High School tapes and then his sophomore tapes at Pitt. I’ll take the player who was 240 rather than the a plyer at 270 who can not jump or run the court. There are several… Read more »

Wow….your estimation of the talent at Pitt now…..is over the top. Maybe Hughley can give some of his weight to the flyweight twins.

It’s Hugley ‘s extra weight that makes it
almost impossible to push him out of the pivot.
His only problem was the inability of the
guards to consistently get him the ball..The
addition of one or perhaps two new guards who can consistently get him the ball should be
a treat to watch.

I am certainly not an expert. on this ,but
Hugley ‘s greatest asset is pushing opposing
centers out of he pivot and his current weight seems to make a difference. With a
more skilled point guard things should
be even better.

I heard they turned down guaranteed spots in this year’s NBA Draft. That who.e 3 star thing was bogus.

Really,,,,,he’s recruited nobody in this class that are going to significantly change Pitt’s placement in the standings. Notice this site and the Trib didn’t use Rivals or 247 player ratings. but some obscure ratings, nobody ever heard of.

I hope Sibande has been practicing threes all year while out. He was a good shooter towards the end of that last season he played.

We’re still missing that piece.

You’re a piece of sh*t. Where did I say “one piece?” I’m saying that is a piece we need to think about. Stop trolling and go f*** yourself.

It still looks like a bottom of the conference roster. But who knows…..anymore.
You have 3 very movable big men…..outside Hughley. With minimal experience.
Still only 1 PG for ONLY 1 year. So he still needs to recruit a good HS PG. And some bulk that can plan, not sit on the bench.

KMP I am uncertain what you bring to the blog but “disruptive and language and personal attacks. Are you running for office as a Republican? Otherwise give us your insights without attacking other bloggers. Is there an age limit to participate. I know I am in for a character assignation on my blog, but I am 70 years old and there is nothing KMP can call me that someone else hasn’t called me during my liftime.

Hi, if you look at my post I am ⁶responding to “Felton, family, and friends” who first attacked my original, constructive, unabbrasive post. Frankly I am sick of people like that. Please read the thread and you will see that I am not calling you any names and that my post was a response to a troll who indiscriminatly called me a name because of my constructive post. That person is the one who seems to feel the need to attack others.

He was just relying to the troll who started it. His original post was just his insights like you asked for. He even censored his own curse words.
