Pitt Starting Pitcher Duo of Gilbertson and Corcoran Make All-ACC Teams

Pitt’s starting pitcher duo of senior Matt Gilbertson and junior Billy Corcoran made the All-ACC Second-Team and All-ACC Third-Team, respectively, the ACC announced Monday for their season awards.

Gilbertson and Corcoran are the eighth and ninth All-ACC selections under head coach Mike Bell in his third full season with the team. They are also the first duo of pitchers to make All-ACC teams in the same season under Bell.

As the No. 1 starting pitcher this season, Gilbertson led the team in many categories, including an 8-3 record, 3.55 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 87 strikeouts to just 11 walks and a .261 opposing batting average. Gilbertson led the ACC with 37 strikeouts looking, 91.1 innings pitched and tied for most games started at 14. He also tied for third with only 11 walks allowed, tied for fourth with eight wins and tied for fifth with 87 strikeouts.

Corcoran led the ACC with the least walks allowed with just eight this season. He finished in sixth in innings pitched at 80.2 and tied for sixth with seven wins. Corcoran also earned ACC Pitcher of the Week on April 25, after his performance against Miami on April 24. Against the Hurricanes he struck out eight batters and only gave up one walk and one run in eight innings.

Gilberston and Corcoran ranked first and fifth, respectively in innings per game, with Gilbertson averaging 6.52 innings and Corcoran averaging 6.21 innings. Corcoran and Gilbertson also lead the ACC in walks allowed per game, with Corcoran in first at 0.89 and Gilbetson in second at 1.08.

Pitt plays Tuesday, May 24 in the first game of the ACC Tournament, as they take on No. 7 Georgia Tech at 11:00 a.m. at Truist Field in Charlotte, N.C.
