Jordan Bass didn’t receive an offer from Pitt until March 14, but the three-star safety from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia has seen enough already to name Pitt as a top contender.
Bass (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) narrowed down an offer sheet of Boston College, Duke, East Carolina, Kent State, Liberty, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech to a Top 5 of Pitt, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

Bass has made visits to Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, Clemson, Penn State and South Carolina since the beginning of the year. He hasn’t publically posted about making a trip to Pitt, he reportedly made it out to Pittsburgh recently for an unofficial visit Thursday.
As a big, rangy safety — who’s already bulked up to a sizeable 200 pounds ahead of his senior season — at Phoebus, Bass helped lead the Phantoms to a VHSL Class 3 state championship in 2021.
A first-team All-State defensive back, in the three games listed on MaxPreps, he caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown on offense and recorded 19 tackles (12 solo), an interception returned for a touchdown, a passes defense and a forced fumble and recovery.
While Bass hasn’t announced official visits yet, his recent visit to Pitt and Top 5 staus puts Pitt in a good position to land the talented safety on an unofficial visit this June.
Pitt has landed in the finalist tier for a couple of 2023 recruits over the last few months, including three-star tight end Vance Bolyard (Greensboro, North Carolina), three-star defensive end Kamari Burns (Columbus, Ohio), three-star cornerback Jermaine Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio), four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu (Upper Marlboro, Maryland), four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring (West Bloomfield, Michigan), four-star defensive end Dashawn Womack (Baltimore, Md.), three-star offensive lineman Jordan Church (Bradenton, Florida), three-star cornerback Shelton Lewis (Stockbridge, Georgia), three-star wide receiver Ayden Greene (Powell, Tennessee), four-star cornerback Braeden Marshall (Lake Mary, Florida) three-star wide receiver Andy Jean (Miami, Florida) and three-star wide receiver Hilton Alexander II (Douglasville, Georgia).
Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class includes four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey (Hendersonville, Tennessee) and three-star wide receiver Zion Fowler (Jersey City, New Jersey), and the class will only grow in the next weeks and months.
