Throughout the month of June, the Pitt football program will be hosting various prospect camps at their facility on the South Side.

This camp is an opportunity for players of different ages to be viewed by numerous D-1 coaches, including Pat Narduzzi and his staff.

The first of these camps took place on Sunday and one of the participants earned an offer from Pitt.

2023 3-star offensive tackle Phillip Daniels from Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio got the call with the news on Monday night from Pat Narduzzi and Dave Borbely. Daniels (6’5″, 275) holds other Power Five offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Minnesota and Purdue.

Following his call with Pitt, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke on Monday night with Daniels, who told us despite just getting the offer, he’s been talking with the Pitt staff for quite awhile now.

“I’ve actually been in contact with Coach Bates for a long time,” Daniels tells PSN. “First, he came down to my school, and then brought the offensive coordinator down, then the head coach. Everybody has been nice to me, talking to me and speaking very highly of me. It was then they asked me to attend their camp. Since they were always recruiting me, calling me and checking on me, I was like you know what, I’m going to go to their camp and ball out.”

“I believed that an offer from Pitt was possible, and I just needed to put in the extra time and work. I only was able to play in five games last season so I think they wanted me to attend the camp in order to see me move and see how I work. I went to Pitt looking at it as a business trip and that I needed to do what I had to do. I wasn’t really thinking about trying to earn the offer, I was just thinking about having the killer instinct that’s needed.”

Daniels was able to display that killer instinct and impressed the Panther staff enough to pick up another Power Five offer. Last weekend’s visit to Pitt won’t be the last one Daniels makes as he’s already scheduled an official visit in the near future.

“I got the news from Coach Narduzzi and Coach Borbs,” said Daniels. “They called me and were speaking very highly of me and told me I did a heck of a job. They then said that they could really use me at Pitt. Now that I have it, the offer from Pitt is very exciting. Back when I used to play the defensive line, I would always watch highlights of Aaron Donald, so it’s very cool. I feel really good about Pitt and can’t wait to get to know them more and go check out the facilities.”

“I’ve already got a date in the works for an official visit. I’m going to be there June 16-18 and then I’m going to stay on Sunday, the 19th and get some extra work in with Coach Borbs.”

Along with this official visit, Daniels also has ones scheduled to Minnesota (June 10) and Purdue (June 24).

He looks out of shape and does not move well. Looks slow.
