Top-Ten Point Guard Dior Johnson Commits to Pitt

Published

on

Four-star class-of-2022 guard Dior Johnson has committed to Pitt, a source told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Johnson is a 6-foot-3 point guard out of Southern California Academy in Los Angeles, California. Ranked as the No. 37 overall player and No. 7 point guard in the nation by 247 Sports’ Composite rankings, Johnson becomes the highest-rated recruit in Jeff Capel’s Pitt tenure.

Just days after de-committing from Oregon, Johnson now joins Pitt’s 2022 recruiting class that includes transfers Greg Elliott, Nelly Cummings, and Blake Hinson, as well as prep prospects Jorge Diaz-Graham and Guillermo Diaz-Graham and junior college standouts Cashius McNeilly and Fede Federiko.

Prior to his commitment to Pitt, Johnson has previously been committed to both Syracuse and Oregon. He recently backed out of his pledge to the Ducks program after they added two transfer guards and two junior college guards this offseason, as well as returning guard Will Richardson.

The New York native has spent time at ten different high school programs around the country in recent years, including nationally-recognized basketball programs such as IMG Academy, Findlay Prep, Oak Hill, Prolific Prep, and more. Through his experience, he has become one of the most recognizable names in high school hoops, gaining over 500,000 followers on social media and touting his own merchandise line.

After Capel lost out on previously-committed 2022 guards Jalen Hood-Schifino and Judah Mintz, he now lands Johnson, who is ranked 15 spots below Hood-Schifino nationally, and ten spots above Mintz, per 247.

“The New York native has spent time at ten different high school programs around the country in recent years” and he has de-committed from both Oregon and Syracuse?

Wow.

Sounds like a problem already.

I agree that is worrisome, But it’s better than getting a guy that stinks. Atleast there is a chance he comes in and is a star.
I would rather have some great kid that has no red flags, but beggars can’t be choosers at this point.

I agree. He will not be here 4 years. With his track record, I give him til January 23.
